True Beauty Talk connects clean beauty pioneers with market leaders, media, industry enthusiast, and clean beauty lovers, through informative discussions and networking. True Beauty Talk is a place for brands and experts to unite with clean beauty lovers towards a movement of better beauty.
Jennifer Freitas is Canada's leading green beauty expert and the founder of The Truth Beauty Company. Following an extended research on chemicals, additives and the process of consumable elements, Jennifer decided to alter her personal care and food habits in order to ensure the safety and quality of ingredients consumed by both herself and those she loves. Being conscious of these elements allowed her to protect the environment and waters from persistent and bioaccumulative toxic chemicals affecting our bodies functionality.
10 years into green living Jennifer decided to create a consumer friendly platform, and in 2010 launched The Truth Beauty Company which offers viable equivalents to the toxic chemically laden commercial brands available in today’s saturated personal care market. Whilst keeping tabs on the latest achievements of the ingredient conscious beauty industry, Jennifer and the Truth Beauty Company team thrive on finding alternatives which are cost savvy, chemical free and eco-friendly for North American shoppers.
Candice Batista is an award winning Environmental Journalist and one of Canada’s leading eco advocates. Her career spans national and international media outlets, where she has used her background in environmental studies and media & communications to produce and report on various environmental and climate issues for primarily television and digital audiences including Huffington Post, The Globe & Mail, The Weather Network, CityTV, Rogers Television, The Pet Network, iChannel, and CTV, where she is currently the National Eco Expert for the stations number 1 daytime talk show, The Marilyn Denis Show.
GRAYDON is a plant powered, ingredient driven line using superfoods & clinically proven actives which resonate with today’s mindful consumer wanting to make better health, wellness & beauty choices. GRAYDON meets the ever increasing demand for transparency, creating an entirely new category of ‘clean’ products that are results driven, sustainably minded as well as appealing and accessible to a wide demographic.
Melodie Reynolds created Elate Cosmetics as an answer to the traditional cosmetic companies she had worked with for over 20 years. Elate is a conscious beauty company, creating products that are vegan and cruelty-free, using sustainable practices. Shunning dirty ingredients and fear and shame based marketing, her goal for Elate is to change the world, one lipstick at a time.
Kristen is the owner and Holistic Skin Therapist of Woodside Holistic Skin Therapies. Providing customized, plant based facial treatments that replenish the skin and rejuvenate the soul. Her wish is for you to walk away feeling wholly renewed, with a fresh and new awareness of the skin, to appreciate what it needs and reflects and to leave feeling naturally luminous and empowered to begin your skin care journey. Kristen believes in maintaining and nourishing our skin health through plant based ingredients such as therapeutic essential oils and herbs as well as looking at what’s going on internally. Monica Ruffo is a serial entrepreneur and award-winning leader with a long standing passion for health and wellness. Unable to find 100% clean supplements after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Monica set out to create a modern source for natural supplements made with organic botanicals and nothing else.
Woodlot, is a Vancouver-based health, beauty, and wellness company. Sonia Chhinji and her partner, co-founded Woodlot in 2014 from their kitchen, producing their signature clean-burning, GMO-free soy-based coconut candles, and plant-based soaps. Woodlot and their team are on a mission to transform the industry to a point where quality is never in question.
Karina Birch is the Co-Owner and CEO of natural beauty and body care purveyor Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Karina’s interest in natural beauty started when she was a young girl who loved smearing avocado on her face and putting egg in her hair. Believing ‘what goes on the body, goes in the body’, Rocky is on a mission to remove toxins from the bath and body industry.
Danielle Schleese is a professional vegan makeup artist whose mission is to inspire while educating women on the power and abilities of cruelty-free beauty. She is also the co-founder and creative producer of Holistic Beauties, which is an online information hub for holistic skin-care and beauty, offering unique tools like their BFF (The Best Face Friend).
Frances’ journey into holistic skincare started later in life. While dealing with the stress of attending art school and working full time, she noticed her skin and body crying out for help and began to connect how her lifestyle was wreaking havoc on her hormones and body. Her approach to healing follows the ethos of slow and steady: healing is a journey. She hopes to help and inspire people to make small changes in their life for the better by nourishing their body inside and out.
As a teenager, Kenna first began experimenting with plant-based ingredients and formulations searching for a natural solution for acne and dry and sensitive skin. Now an expert in plant biochemistry and sustainable skincare, Kenna actively works alongside scientific researchers, natural health product industry leaders and expert consultants to develop high performance, sustainable cosmetics that are good for people and planet.
As VP of Clean and veteran member of the Indie Lee team, Rebecca Gordon works as the gatekeeper of the clean standards that empower the brand to create these effective, clean products. With a deep interest in ingredients and education, Rebecca strives to keep the brand ahead of the curve on the latest ingredients, formulations and regulatory concerns, ultimately guiding what it means to be clean in an industry that is no longer a trend, but here to stay.
